Afternoon Terry,
I have just spoken to Don , in respect of the proposed constitution, and we had a good discussion, including the reasoning behind some of the inclusions.
By way of comparison, I looked at 2 recent Surf Club constitutions, which had been updated recently. They too are associated incorporations.
I can see a lot of effort has gone into the document , and the Objects are quite broad , which is important.
The Annexure dealing with the clubhouse is detailed, and importantly allows inclusion of the wider community , in both its use and management.
The Powers of the association are brief and to the point , and in line with the Act. Others I have looked at go into much detail. The danger with going down that path is , you may leave something out , which doesn’t arise until you try and do something , which you don’t have power to do. As discussed with Don , the “Kiss” theory , or simple option is the way to go , as you have chosen and it avoids any confusion.
As an outsider , and as a solicitor of almost 40 years standing , with experience over the years with club constitutions, I congratulate Don and Allan on a job well done.
As an original Gold Coast member of Windansea , I’m proud of your efforts in being able to move your club forward , and achieving it’s dream towards having your own clubhouse.
I wish you and the club every future success
Kind Regards
Mal Chalmers
